26 Week Scare

After watching that preterm labor video at our last appointment we have been a little on edge. So after work tonight we went to L&D because we thought J had a bladder infection or a UTI – which can cause preterm labor if left unchecked.

Thankfully she is fine and so is Ruby, but definitely a scare! Our little womb ninja was attacking and pushing on that fetal monitor like crazy! She is one sassy little gal already 🙂 She’s been super active today too.

Sorry this one is so short. Just a little update.

25 weeks

Had or 25 week appointment today. Ruby is doing well. 150bpm on her heartbeat. Wife is measuring at 26cm – right on track!

We watched a totally 90s video about preterm labor and it definitely had the “preterm labor is your fault” vibe throughout its 6 minutes or so. However we now know what to look out for and that’s important.

We are hoping to sign up for birth classes pretty soon. $70 for 5 sessions or 2 sessions (haven’t decided if we want 2 long ones or the shorter ones). Advice on this is welcome. I’m not sure what Kaiser teaches method wise.

Does anyone have reliable – hopefully pretty unbiased – information about the Tdap shot during pregnancy? I know they are going to suggest it soon and I’d like to be well informed on any risks, successful transfer rate to Ruby etc. Please no vaccine bashing. It is our choice to vaccinate and be educated.

Still job hunting. So far no real leads. Keep on trying though! And now, I leave you with a photo.

Shampoo

Tonight I tried my hand at making my own shampoo, and although it was only one shower with it, so far I’m pretty impressed!

1 15oz can of coconut milk
1/2 bar of Kirks Castile Soap (grated)
1 tsp vitamin E oil
1/2 tsp grapefruit seed oil
Essential Oils to your liking (I used orange and tangerine)

I grated up the Kirks and slightly melted it into the coconut milk. Added all the oils and shook up in a previously used shampoo bottle and tada! Shampoo! If I had Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap I would have used 1/4 cup of that instead, but the grated soap works well. I like Kirks because it has coconut oil in it. It lathered up nicely and I didn’t use any conditioner and my hair is smooth and soft and smells great!

If the Mrs approves of it then I’ll be making it in the future! Going to try my hand at some body soap after we run out of our current stuff.
